The Engagement of Australians of Christian Background with Buddhism in Australia: An Exploratory Study of Religious Conversion

Buddhism is one of the fastest growing religions in Australia. Significant part of this growth is due to converts from other religions. This thesis is an empirical based study of the process of conversion to Buddhism by Australians of Christian background (Catholic and Protestant). It discusses and presents the findings regarding the main reasons and causes leading to these conversions, such as dissatisfaction with certain aspects of Christian teachings and practice, the attraction of Buddhist teachings and practice, the complexities involved in the process of conversion and converts' prospects and challenges.
