The Empire Looks South: Early Chinese Perceptions of Cambodia
thesis
posted on 2021-01-11, 03:23authored byPeter Harris
The thesis has two interrelated aims. The first is to provide full, up-to-date, annotated translations into English of imperial Chinese texts concerning Cambodia from the third to the thirteenth century, that is, in the millennium before and during the Angkor era. The second aim of the thesis is to analyse the contributions these texts make to our understanding of early Cambodian history, their gaps and omissions, and the imperial Chinese attitudes that inform them.
