This thesis investigates the measurement and relationship of epicardial fat, the fat layer around the heart and heart arteries and its effect on the development of vulnerable plaques that can result in heart attacks, irrespective of patient weight. It identifies the appropriate method of measurement and associations with heart dysfunction and suggests that this may be a novel target for future treatment.
