The Ancestor: Knowing, Being and Doing through verbatim performance

thesis
posted on 2025-03-27, 23:55 authored by Blayne John Welsh
This thesis provides an account of the Kings, Brothers and Heroes project, an experimental theatre and performance exploration in which the verbatim performance methodology of Joe Salvatore is applied to an Indigenous Truth speaking performance ceremony. Through use of personal account, autoethnography and autotheoretical modes of enquiry, the author outlines the ways in which the Doing of the work encounter the theoretical Knowing of discourse, which in turn affected the lived experience (Being) of the author as a descendant of the Stolen Generation.
