This thesis draws together and thematically links the notions of the afterlife contained within the in the Book of Enoch. This thesis compares the afterlife beliefs in the Book of Enoch to the religious myths of the Sumerians, Babylonians, Greeks and Persians. The Book of Enoch has also been compared to ideas found in the Hebrew Bible. The concept of restoration of justice is one of the major themes of the Book of Enoch. Its imagery of the afterlife developed as an imagined way of fixing an unjust world.
