Telehealth Neuropsychological Screening at a First Seizure Clinic

thesis
posted on 2024-12-03, 22:51 authored by Remy Mae Pugh
Epilepsy is associated with a range of cognitive and psychological comorbidities. In order to better understand the causes and course of these issues, this thesis explored neuropsychological function in individuals with new-onset epilepsy, using a telehealth screening approach. Cognitive and psychological problems were found at disease onset, before the effects of recurrent seizures, antiseizure medication and psychosocial limitations have accumulated. Learning and memory performances were particularly poorer than that of healthy controls and patients with other seizure-like conditions. This research emphasises the need and utility of neuropsychological screening early in epilepsy care.
