Teaching effectiveness is a contested concept entailing various socio-cultural characteristics and ethical complexities. The study explores Indonesian students' and teachers' perceptions of teaching effectiveness in vocational higher education contexts. Employing qualitative approach, the study identifies differences between students and teachers positionality in assessment practices, components which are fundamental to ethics of care corresponding to safe learning environment, and the need to practice authentic pedagogies.
