Talo Melinting: Meaning and context in a gong-chime music of East Lampung

This thesis compares the meanings of an Indonesian gong-ensemble music in two contexts: village ceremonies and public performances. It shows that the way individuals interpret its meaning depends on their unique combination of experiences and cultural knowledge, which may encompass both of these contexts.
