As a result of the Syrian Civil War, there are nearly four million displaced Syrians hosted in Türkiye today. These displaced persons do not hold refugee status. They are given temporary protection status by the Turkish Government. This status creates an ambiguity regarding displaced Syrians’ futures, whether it is repatriation, re-settlement to a third country or permanent stay in Türkiye. I pose the question, How does Türkiye’s ‘management’ of displaced Syrians align with a commitment to integration? I conclude that there is a deliberate strategy on part of the Government to deny long-term integration, resulting in temporary integration to transpire.
