Lignin was produced from Oil Palm biomass waste and converted to nano-size by a mechanical method (Ultrasonication). Prepared nano lignin was around 200 nm in size and showed better thermal performance compared to lignin. The size of the nano lignin remained unchanged at pH 7 over three months. Nano lignin was added to starch composites. They showed good mechanical, thermal and water resistance performance compared to lignin. Hence, nano lignin composites are a potential alternative to petroleum-based polymer packages for the food industry.
