In this body of work, the production of high strength nanocellulose sheets was shown to be achievable at lower energy. Characterisation studies revealed a more effective method to determine the nanocellulose fibre diameter distribution from microscopy images. Recycled fibres were shown to be a viable substitute to virgin fibres for nanocellulose production and strength reinforcement applications. The recycling of nanocellulose sheets was shown to have great advantages to reduce the sheet drainage times while retaining excellent strength. This research demonstrates that nanocellulose has great potential to be a high-value sustainable and recyclable material of the future.
