The structural integrity of road pavements is important in fulfilling their many functions. Given Australia’s large road network together with the increasing freight task and population, there is a need to develop innovative ways to increase the cost-effectiveness of materials used. This thesis is a collection of selected research papers from work carried out over a 30-year period on a series of national studies related to the structural design, performance and rehabilitation of road pavements. Specifically, the research relates to methods to design the most cost-effective road pavement structures in relation to the material types used and their thicknesses.
