Structural Investigations of Water-Soluble Calixarene with Polycationic Salts

thesis
posted on 2020-12-15, 03:21 authored by SZE LE LOH
This project involves the synthesis and characterisation of a series of polycationic salts which consist of different functional groups and number of substitutions. These salts are used as the guest molecules for the host-guest interaction evaluation with the p-sulfonatocalix[4]arene. Upon addition of polycationic salts to p-sulfonatocalix[4]arene along with other building components, the supermolecules were self-assembled into a bilayer arrangement with some structures showed molecular capsules as part of the repeating units. The host-guest interaction is influenced by the nature of the polycationic molecules including the substituent position, length of terminal aliphatic chain, geometries of the rings and number of substituents.
