Stability Enhancement and Interaction of Grid-Strengthening Assets and Renewable Energy Farms in Weak Grids

thesis
posted on 2022-06-27, 04:54 authored by SAJJAD HADAVI

The increasing number of weak-grid-connected renewable energy resources in various power systems has created challenges. Different assets improve stability and solve the challenges introduced into the system, such as Synchronous Condensers (SynCons). However, assets installation cost, their control approach, and interaction of the assets with existing renewable resources and upcoming new renewable energy resources must be considered. In this project, a method is proposed to optimally allocate and size the SynCons in a system. Second, a method is proposed to design an optimal controller for SynCons exciter. Finally, a framework for stability analysis of assets is introduced.
