This thesis explores the socio-cultural dimension of child malnutrition through a detailed qualitative study based on primary data focusing on the caregivers' narratives and engage with the key cultural aspects of Indian society that have a strong bearing on a child’s health, including nutrition. This thesis is among the first to apply the theoretical framework of practice theory to understand and discuss the role of social structures and how it conditions the child's nutritional health in rural West Bengal, India. The findings not only contribute to understanding the intra-household contexts where essential practices occur but also have crucial policy implications.
