Social Participation of Older Persons in Long Term-care: A Human Rights Analysis

thesis
posted on 2023-11-13, 03:45 authored by RACHEL MORRISON-DAYAN
This thesis analyses how international human rights law should be more expansively applied to better protect the right to social participation for older persons living in residential long-term care. This research responds to the significant levels of social isolation and loneliness experienced in long-term care in many countries in the context of a lack of appreciation of the human rights of older persons in an ageing population. The thesis also makes recommendations on how the thesis’ findings relating to international human rights law should be implemented in the Australian residential aged-care context to better protect the right to social participation.
