Situating Intimacy: Design Framework for a Breastfeeding-Friendly City

thesis
posted on 2023-10-11, 19:22 authored by ENIRA ARVANDA
This thesis contributes to knowledge by studying spatial contexts and elements of the built environment that encourage public breastfeeding. It explores and studies women's everyday breastfeeding experiences in order to gain a better understanding of women's behaviour and public space use. This research aims at developing strategies that encourage breastfeeding women to occupy public spaces; proposes tools that can be used to investigate different possibilities of spatial inhabitation; and discusses ways to develop an inclusive and gender-sensitive design framework for the planning of a breastfeeding-friendly urban environment.
