Simulation of many-body phenomena with ultracold atomic gases
The world around us is a collection of many-body quantum systems that cannot be simulated by classical computers. Eventually, we will study these systems using a universal simulator built from an advanced quantum computer, but for now quantum computing remains in its infancy. We thus turn our attention to simpler analogue quantum computers, which are highly controllable environments that ‘mimic’ the physics of a more complicated systems. In this thesis, we theoretically investigate the application of an ideal candidate in quantum analogue simulation, ultracold atomic gases, to the study of many-body quantum phenomena.
