Significance of brown adipose tissue in sheep and humans

thesis
posted on 2019-07-02, 01:40 authored by JOHN-PAUL FULLER-JACKSON
Brown fat is an organ capable of producing heat. It is hoped that brown fat can be used to burn extra energy in the body. In this thesis, we aimed to understand how common factors such as exercise, diet, sex or sex steroids influence brown fat. We found that regular exercise can increase heat production in fat when dieting. Regarding sex, brown fat heat production is greater in women than men, which may be due to the differences in estrogen and testosterone between sexes. Further research is required to determine how exactly exercise, sex and sex steroids regulate brown fat.
