This project examines four architecture exhibitions held between 1979 and 1989 in Melbourne. I have developed a new curatorial methodology that creatively mobilises each exhibition’s archive in conjunction with new interviews. The outcome is a ‘parafictional’ exhibition experienced via cinematographic ‘tours’ that puts contemporary viewers in the liminal space between fact and fiction. My research has the focused aim of recuperating exhibitions for Australian architectural history and the broader aim of offering an original but replicable and transferrable method for excavating, imagining and reflecting on conditions of historical cultural production by applying a curatorial logic and methodology to past exhibitions.
