‘Shifting mentality: a case study in going home' is an ongoing practice-based research project informed by French philosopher Catherine Malabou's concept of 'mentality,' and Aboriginal Gumbainggir activist, academic, writer, and actor, Gary Foley's directives to white supporters of Aboriginal justice to understand the true nature of what we're up against by looking in the mirror, 'go(ing) home' and talking to family. In this project, I adopt experimental strategies and artistic approaches — performance, object making, painting and writing—as means to recognise and challenge the silences of my settler-colonial heritage and shift mentality.
