Self-management for pulmonary fibrosis: what does it mean and how might it help?

thesis

Pulmonary fibrosis (PF) is a debilitating lung disease characterised by breathlessness, cough and reduced health-related quality of life. People with PF have unmet supportive care needs and express a desire for support in self-management. However, a self-management educational package designed specifically for PF is lacking. My research program developed a novel PF-specific self-management package, which consists of 12 topics that people living with PF and healthcare professionals identified as essential for self-management. Delivery of the package was feasible and acceptable to people with PF, providing a strong foundation for future research examining the impact of self-management on patient-centred outcomes.
