Macrophage Expressed Gene 1 (MPEG1) is a transmembrane protein and is constitutively expressed in various cells, specially macrophages, of immune system. This work reports that MPEG1 does not directly contribute towards antibacterial activity and found to be over-expressed following activation by LPS or/and INF- γ, important mediators of inflammatory response. In addition to this, MPEG1 was found to play a role in soluble antigen presentation and cross-presentation to the immune cells in adaptive immune response, CD4+ T cells and CD8+ T cells respectively.
