SPH modelling of convective flow in natural water bodies

thesis

Convective flows occur naturally in water bodies as a consequence of temperature gradients. Water bodies, such as lakes and wetlands, often present a vegetated littoral zone, which contribute to differential heating during diurnal heating and cooling, resulting in convective flows. These flows can impact the water quality of natural water bodies by changing the temperature profile and biological activities, transporting and mixing of pollutants, and flushing the littoral zone. This study provides an understanding about convective flows in unvegetated and vegetated littoral zone of natural water bodies for a range of diurnal conditions.
