The high prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii infection in the worldwide human population (30%) is mainly due to the ability of the proliferative stage parasite to convert into latent tissue cysts. To date, there are no effective treatments available to treat and control the spread of this disease, and the stage conversion mechanism of the parasite remains unclear. This thesis investigates the role of sirtuin in modulating the stage conversion process. The findings in the present study suggest that T.gondii sirtuin may not play a role in regulating the interconversion process.
