Our sense of vision depends on the coordinated activity within dozens of circuits involving billions of brain cells. Communication of information between cells in these circuits is poorly understood. This thesis explores a model of rhythmic communication where brain cells must synchronise to effectively send and receive information. These findings will aid in the future development of brain-machine interfaces and prosthetic devices such as bionic eyes, which require effective communication between brain cells.
