This thesis investigates modular multilevel converters (MMCs) and presents advancements in three areas: developing an efficient MMC simulator adaptable to various scenarios, introducing a cost-effective voltage balancing algorithm without additional sensors, and presenting a health monitoring method for MMCs without extra sensors or circuitry. The research contributes significantly to MMC-based high-voltage transmission systems and control, offering potential benefits for renewable energy integration and power grid stability, while providing a foundation for future studies and practical applications.
