Reading Comprehension in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders: Trialling a Reciprocal Teaching Intervention

thesis
posted on 2021-10-14, 08:07 authored by BINITA DHARAMJIT SINGH
Reading comprehension is a fundamental skill. Typically, reading comprehension problems lead to learning difficulties at school, and vocational challenges upon leaving school. A significant number of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are observed to experience challenges with reading comprehension, despite often having good word decoding skills. This thesis aimed to identify a reading comprehension intervention that could potentially help remediate their difficulties with reading comprehension. Following an experimental intervention, Reciprocal Teaching was observed to improve the reading comprehension of participants with ASD.
