Mitigating carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions is crucial for achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement. Photoelectrochemical (PEC) technology for CO2 conversion provides a novel and sustainable approach for decarbonisation efforts in time of the global energy transition period. A tandem PEC cell with highly-efficient visible light-active photoanode and photocathode for the overall conversion of CO2 into formic acid is developed. The outcomes of this thesis serve as a crucial basis for further advancements in the field PEC CO2 conversion and will play a significant role in motivating ongoing endeavors towards achieving a worldwide shift to a decarbonised society.
