This research investigated how Indonesian mainstream newspapers represent violence against women and girls (VAWG) by applying the approach and new policies of gender-sensitive journalism (GSJ). By specifically examining three quality Indonesian mainstream newspapers: Kompas, Republika, and The Jakarta Post, the study utilised a mixed-methods approach of news content analysis combined with semi-structured interviews. This study revealed that the neglect of gender-sensitive principles continues to occur at the highest levels of Indonesian journalism. While the overall percentage of the violation of gender-sensitive reporting principles and the Indonesian Journalistic Code of Ethics was small, some areas of concern remain.
