RECOVERY OF ENERGY AND HIGH-VALUE METALS FROM THE AUTOMOTIVE SHREDDER RESIDUES

thesis
posted on 2022-11-09, 20:19 authored by SANDHYA KURUVALAN VIJAYAN
This thesis outlines a holistic approach to recycling automotive shredder residue (car waste) as a potential waste resource for energy and metal recovery. Therefore, this thesis explores a novel pathway in pre-processing the waste and thereby pyrolysis to obtain three different products. The two pyrolysis products can be used as an alternative source for fossil-based fuels, and the solid product containing metal is used for its metal recovery. This thesis used theoretical calculation and developed a kinetic model to support the results. This thesis also examines whether the proposed work is economically viable at commercial- scale.
