This thesis presents a novel method to capture and quantify the x-ray dark-field signal, revealing those tiny structures within a sample that cannot be fully resolved. This is achieved using a single grid and a single exposure only. With suitable calibration, this signal can measure the size of these microstructures. Using this novel technique, we performed the first 4D x-ray dark-field lung imaging. This technique allows us to track how the air sacs that make up the lungs change in size as we breathe. We hope that this novel technique can improve the diagnosis of lung diseases.
