The main objective of this research program was to expand the lens of resilience research to a new application – aging driver behavior – by specifically investigating the relationship that psychological resilience has with driving patterns and behavior of older adults. This was achieved through integration of several data sources across multiple years, including self-reported measures of health and functioning, in-person clinical assessment data, self-reported driving measures, and GPS-derived naturalistic driving data. Results from this research present an innovative approach to understanding driving decisions in later life and add to the scant literature on the influence of psychological variables on driving behavior.
