Psychological Resilience Mechanisms and Processes of the Semai Indigenous Communities in Peninsular Malaysia

This thesis provides an overview of the resilience factors of the indigenous peoples in Southeast Asia and the Semai Orang Asli community in Peninsular Malaysia. It also uncovers the ways on how the Semai community’s indigenous culture and worldviews shape their perception and interpretation of their resilience mechanisms and processes. The overall findings of this thesis emphasize the importance of culture in shaping the mechanisms and processes of resilience. Knowledge obtained from this study could lead to the development of culturally sensitive intervention methodologies that would help strengthen and enhance the Semai community’s resilience and overall well-being.
