In this thesis, we analyze overall IoT architecture from a security-aware data provenance perspective and propose a novel IoT data provenance model for system security awareness and risk estimation. We propose a protocol for step-wise validation of the security metadata to interpret data trust at any phase of data propagation. We evaluate the feasibility and viability of the study through a proof of concept-based implementation and documentation of security experts' insight on the evidence of security controls using a table-top exercise. Finally, we demonstrate the applicability and adaptability of security-aware provenance graphs in different application settings.
