The thesis examined techniques, including imaging and markers, to improve the precision of radiation treatments for prostate cancer. It showed that magentic resonance imaging (MRI) could increase radiation therapy design accuracy. It also illustrated that new markers made from polymer and tissue glue produced less interference than standard gold markers in radiation therapy imaging for targeting prostate cancer. The improved accuracy has the potential benefit of increasing the cure of localized prostate cancer and reducing the side effects of radiation treatment.
