Profiling the bioactivities of fungal endophytes from Orchidaceae

thesis
posted on 2023-08-22, 00:14 authored by RU WEI CHUA
This thesis examines the beneficial traits of endophytic fungi residing in the root tissues of Orchidaceae (Cymbidium and Dendrobium orchids) in Malaysia. Results revealed that Orchidaceae hosted diverse endophytic fungi that are producers of antimicrobials, antioxidants and the antileukemic enzyme, L-asparaginase. Endophytic fungi with the strongest potential were selected for identification of their bioactive compounds. Several bioactive compounds are new reports from endophytic fungi. As a sustainable alternative, endophytic fungi can serve as rich sources of bioactive compounds in the pursuit of drug discovery and development.
