Privileged scaffold-inspired drug discovery

thesis

Privileged scaffold-inspired drug discovery stands out as a potential strategy to improve the rate and success of the development of therapeutic agents. In this thesis, we investigated two medicinal chemistry projects where the privileged scaffold paradigm is examined. Firstly, 4-arylbenzosuber-1-one compounds were synthesised for the first time and assessed for potential use as a scaffold. Secondly, compound scaffolds with known activity against human targets were assessed as potential antifungal treatments. Both projects yielded products with informative pharmacological activity, laying a platform for future research that could identify new drugs for poorly treated diseases.
