Preventive sexual and reproductive health care for women from refugee-like backgrounds in Australia

thesis
posted on 2024-08-01, 07:52 authored by NATASHA JUDITH DAVIDSON
My research explored the views and experiences of women who have refugee backgrounds and the health professionals who care for them, regarding access and use of preventive sexual and reproductive healthcare. This includes women’s healthcare needs regarding cervical screening, breast screening, vaccination and contraceptive care. Through extensive literature reviews, interviewing women and surveying health professionals, I gained a better understanding of the factors that help and prevent women from accessing care. The research shows refugee women lack necessary skills and supports to access care following arrival in Australia. The knowledge gained could inform healthcare polices, clinical practice and future research.
