This thesis covers the presence of S. aureus and methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) bacteria in the oral cavity of the Segamat community in Johor, Malaysia. We identified that these bacteria has highest resistance against penicillin. Also, we did molecular typing on the MRSA isolates and suspected the predominant MRSA strains in the Segamat community is ST22-MRSA strains. Last but not least, our study also identified hygiene practice and other lifestyle can influence the colonization of S. aureus or MRSA in the oral cavity.
