This thesis explores the nature of stability in residential care by examining the factors that contribute to an experience of stability for young people. The thesis challenges the current view of what constitutes stability as being measured by a placements-over-time paradigm, rather than taking into account the experience of relationships and consistency as experienced by the young person. It is an exploratory, qualitative investigation into how we can understand stability.
