Phytochemical and Biological Evaluation of Selected Medicinal Plants (from Pakistan)

thesis
posted on 2021-02-22, 03:55 authored by Hammad Saleem
This thesis investigated the phytochemical and pharmacological properties of four medicinal plants: Anagallis arvensis, Bougainvillea glabra, Buxus papillosa, and Filago germanica. Phytochemical screening was performed by total bioactive contents, UHPLC-MS, and HPLC analysis. Antioxidant potential was determined by DPPH, ABTS, CUPRAC, FRAP, TAC, and MCA assays. Inhibitory activities were tested against cholinesterases, α-glucosidase, α-amylase, urease, LOX, and tyrosinase enzymes. Anticancer activity was tested on MCF-7, MDA-MB-231, CaSki, DU-145, and SW-480 cell lines. The active extracts resulted in isolation of 5,7,3'-trihydroxy-6,4',5'-trimethoxyflavone, 5-hydroxy-3, 7-dimethoxy-2-(4'-methoxyphenyl)-flavone, 5,7-dihydroxy-2-(5’-hydroxy-3’, 4’-dimethoxyphenyl)-flavone, β-sitosterol, and 3-(2’-hydroxy-4’, 5’-dimethoxyphenyl)-8-methoxy-isoflavone. The studied plants can be considered as promising origin for natural compounds.
