This project explores the implications of photography in relation to 'elusive referents.’ Elusive referents are subjects that can only be seen with technologies that extend or amplify our sense perceptions. By drawing on and manipulating images of elusive referents, I explore the deceptive nature of photographic likenesses and demonstrate how images can be contrived so that they appear to be one thing but on closer inspection become another. This process draws parallels with human perception and our experience of reality, as addressed in physics and cognitive psychology.
