Performance Shortfalls and Corporate Misbehavior in China: The Role of Governance Structure

Performance shortfalls are an important cause of corporate misbehavior, but there are competing findings in studies examining the effect of performance on misbehavior. This thesis develops a contingency model which combines a shareholder-oriented governance perspective with the behavioral theory to examine how these two factors–performance aspirations and governance structure–interact to influence corporate wrongdoing.
