Pedagogical positioning in children’s imaginative play: A cultural-historical study of learning and development of preschool children from diverse settings

Adult’s involvement in children’s imaginative play to foster better academic learning has become an important research topic in early childhood education. The goal of this study is to capture adult’s day-to-day pedagogical practices and their involvement in children’s imaginative play for supporting their learning and development in everyday social situations. The finding of this study shows the active pedagogical positioning of adults improve children’s learning and development through play. This research contributes to the early childhood community, for example, policymakers, teachers, parents, and other caregivers, by providing some insights into the present pedagogical practices of the preschool and home settings in Australia.
