Anxiety, depression and sleep problems often co-occur in adolescents. What parents think, say and do, also known as modifiable parental factors, may protect adolescents from anxiety and/or depression as well as sleep problems, but remains under-researched. This thesis seeks to identify types of parental factors most likely to support sleep in adolescents with anxiety and/or depression through: (1) a review of the academic literature; (2) a study examining the associations between various parental factors and adolescent sleep measures in a group of parent-adolescent dyads; and, (3) a study involving the delivery of a therapist-assisted online parenting strategies program.
