Many governments and health services internationally aspire to promote access to care in an equitable manner regardless of where a person lives geographically. Despite this, the maldistribution of Australian podiatrists between rural and metropolitan locations continues to raise concern of the workforces’ ability to meet the foot health needs of those living in rural areas. The Podiatrists in Australia: Investigating Graduate Employment (PAIGE) study was initiated to create a unique podiatry workforce dataset, and more specifically to understand why Australian podiatrists choose to work where they do. We also wanted to understand why some podiatrists left the profession earlier than retirement.
