This post qualitative enquiry explores introductory computer programming education through a creative pedagogy of making and experiencing art. It does not seek to move computers into the art classroom but to perform education within the computer room differently. An agential realist theoretical framework was employed to diffractively analyse phenomena emerging from four workshops comprising of media and music pre-service teachers. This research suggests that making art by materially engaging with computing/coding may be productive of both the maker’s interest in coding and the art. This approach may enable more people to engage differently with computing/coding, thus producing alternative digital futures.
