The fast electrical switching of electrical signals in an LED illumination bulb allows it to be used for both Visible Light Communication (VLC) and Visible Light Positioning (VLP). An indoor simple, fast, geometric positioning system called the Binary Search Algorithm which uses RSSI trilateration is introduced. It is robust against noise. When dealing with multipath light reflection issues the positioning accuracy ballooned from millimeters to meters. The photodetector Field-of-View minimization and error minimization algorithms are proposed reducing positioning errors to centimeters. This work guides the lighting engineer for the best installation of LED lamps by considering illumination and positioning criteria.
