This study explored the vulnerability of older people to extreme weather events and the role of social protection in addressing their vulnerability. The study adopted a qualitative approach and conducted in-depth interviews with 56 older people to collect relevant data. The findings of the study show that older people in the coastal region are highly vulnerable to extreme weather events. Every extreme event in the past had significantly affected their livelihoods. It also shows that social protection programmes (formal and informal) help them cope better with the impact of extreme weather events and reduce their vulnerability.
